An empirical study evaluating the usefulness of dynamic graphical display in decision supportThe Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Kowloon, Hong Kong The rapid advance of computer technology, especially computer graphics, has fostered the use of dynamic graph ical display in decision support systems (DSS). However, empirical evidence on the usefulness of dynamic graphics in decision support is limited. This paper presents an empirical study investigating this important issue. Results of the study offer moderate support to using dynamic graphics in DSS. Watching the dynamic visual display seems to be beneficial in decision support. However, no observable link between information processing strategy and decision performance is found. Further research is required to fully explore the impact of dynamic graphics on decision support tools.
